Music, TV, & “Art”

Thursday

musicals pastels

  • Musicals!  Ever since Glee premiered I have been obsessed with watching and listening to old musicals that I loved as a little girl and ones I love today.  I learned to sing by watching Disney musicals, particularly The Little Mermaid.  I must have worn out my cassette tape soundtrack rewinding “Part of your World” hundreds of times.
  • Everything Bagels with Cream Cheese. So good it even has it’s own facebook page!  For the last couple of months Ramses has been making us breakfast while I finish getting ready for work.  Normally, it’s some variation of eggs, bacon, or waffles.  We normally don’t have bagels in the house so it’s a treat to have something I really love.  Yesterday he accidentally left the office with my breakfast that he had thoughtfully packed up for me since I was running late.  The one I had this morning was so much better because of that!

  • Fall TV!!  I am a TV addict.  I love television; drama, comedy, trashy reality.  It’s my favorite way to relax.  So, needless to say I have been so excited about the new fall season.  With old favorites returning and some new shows I want to try we had to carefully organize our TiVo in order to ensure we get to record most of what we can to see.  Some new shows I am excited about:  Glee (but you already know that), Eastwick, Flashforward, Community, and Vampire Diaries .  Both Glee, Vampire Diaries, and Community have already premiered and I am really enjoying them.
  • Ramses!  No explaination needed.  He’s a “thing I love” everyday.  =)
  • Ebi & Kai!  Again no explaination needed, my boys make me laugh everyday.  I love them to bits.

  • Coloring books & crayons!  I have been getting daily visits to my office from my boss’ granddaughters who I keep entertained by coloring with them.  This week we covered the refrigerator with Hello Kitty in an effort to girl up the place.  =)

Man on the Street

Friday

The only person that I hold a true he-can-do-no-wrong fangirl obsession with is Joss Whedon.  However, after watching the first three episodes of his new series, Dollhouse I was afraid that maybe he lost his touch.

What I enjoy most about Whedon are his characters and how deeply he makes the viewers care for them.  The whole idea behind the “actives” is they have no personality of their own and are implanted with custom-made personalities when sent out on engagements.  There are very limited interaction between the characters and what was there felt very superficial.  Then there was the whole “let’s just have an excuse to dress Eliza Dushku up in sexy outfits and do kick ass stuff” thing that bored me after the second episode.  But once Echo started glitching, that’s when the show got some legs.

Echo is starting to retain memories and is feeling connected to her fellow actives, Victor and Sierra.  There is an underlying story arc that is starting to take shape and now I am dying to know more!  This last episode “Man on the Street” was the best so far this season and had real make-my-heart-hurt emotion.  Some overall thoughts:

  • I knew that Victor didn’t rape Sierra but I had no idea it was her handler… that made me sick to my stomach.
  • The reason for Patton Oswald’s (can’t remember the character name) engagement made me all misty.
  • Ballard and Mellie are hot together!  I love that she’s not rail thin like all the other actresses on the show.  I heart Miracle Laurie!
  • Sleeper!  Holy crap!  I had some sense that Mellie may have been an active but not exactly the way it played out.   Soooo good.
  • Who entered that additional info into Echo’s program during her mission to kill Ballard?   Was it Ivy or was it Topher himself?  Hmm…
  • More Dollhouses!

Namaste

Friday

Every Friday I am going to try and write about one of my obsessions which normally are in the forms of movies, television, books, comics, or what ever else has me wasting work hours googling or lurking on random forums.  This section will normally be reserved for things I love but on occasion I may come here to bitch about things that other people love that  I either just don’t get or that has driven me to such disdain that it simply cannot be ignored (Twilight, that means you!)

Alright, I am not that familiar with spoiler etiquette but you should probably only read this if a) you have already seen the most recent episode of LOST or b) have no intention of seeing the most recent episode of LOST… although I am guessing if you don’t watch LOST this will most likely be confusing so you probably shouldn’t bother reading it either!

I have to say that this season has been fantastic.  Even with all the confusing time travel I am really enjoying the story and it is starting to feel like the answers to some of the questions we all have may be close to getting answered.  The one thing that I always found frustrating with the show is that it has a tendency to introduce more mysteries before ever solving previous ones but I am learning to sit back and enjoy the ride again.  I am hoping that there will be a huge “AHA!” moment towards the end of the series where everything makes complete sense though.

Things that left impressions on me:

  • I actually feel bad for Juliet.  I have never been a big fans of hers but she and Sawyer have been living together for 3 years and for Little Miss Have-Her-Cake-And-Eat-It-Too Kate to come back into the picture and threaten to ruin the life they have made is so wrong.
  • Jack and Sawyer are at odds as always.  I think they were both being a bit too alpha male about the situation.  I understand how freaked out Jack must be so Sawyer should be a little more compassionate.  But on the other hand Jack waltzes back onto the island and thinks he’s in charge again with his demands and judgments on how Sawyer runs things.  Lame.
  • Radzinsky!  He designed the Swan station?  He was Kelvin’s partner before Desmond showed up.  It’s interesting to meet a character that was just mentioned way back in season 2 (at least I think it was season 2.)
  • Sun, Ben, Lapidus, and zombie!Locke somehow didn’t get sucked onto the 1977 Island!  Why?  How do they get there?  Will Christian really “shepherd” them to where they need to be?
  • On a related note, the one fricking reunion I am dying to see I have to wait longer for… Sun and Jin.  They break my heart.
  • What the heck happened to Faraday?
  • Where are Rose, Bernard, and Vincent?  I have had this question since the island started skipping.
  • My love for Hurley is unwavering.
